Maasai Pre-School Project
Early-years classrooms in Maasai communities, taught in Maa and Swahili.
The problem
Children arriving at primary school without any early-years education fall behind in the first term and often never catch up. In pastoralist communities the nearest pre-school can be a two-hour walk.
What we do about it
Classrooms are built in the boma itself, staffed by teachers from the community, and taught bilingually so children arrive at primary school already reading.
